FTC-Telekom forward Jussi Tammela has been suspended for one game and fined €200 by the ICE Hockey League Department of Player Safety. The sanction follows a cross-check on EC-KAC forward Nick Petersen during Sunday’s game in Budapest.

Tammela received a major penalty and a game misconduct for the incident at 39:46. After reviewing video, the league’s Player Safety Committee classified it as a Category 1, “Careless” case for supplementary discipline. The league said Tammela raised his stick horizontally to head height and delivered a forceful cross-check to Petersen’s head area as Petersen moved away from the boards. The contact appeared to cause an injury, according to the disciplinary explanation.

The league stated that Petersen had not made an aggressive move that could reasonably prompt a defensive reaction, and that Tammela’s action was neither accidental nor an unintended use of the stick. It also noted that Tammela is not a repeat offender. He will next be eligible to play on 24 October, when FTC-Telekom host HC Falkensteiner Pustertal.
