HC Vítkovice Ridera have released defenceman Josh Wesley as they respond to a poor start to the Extraliga season. The 30-year-old American was left out of the lineup for the team’s last two games, and coach Yorick Treille does not plan to use him going forward. The club said the two sides had agreed to his departure.
Wesley leaves less than a year after joining Vítkovice from Zvolen in December. He played 32 games for the club, scoring four goals and adding five assists. This season, his plus-minus rating of minus six was the worst on the roster, while his ice time had dropped below 14 minutes per game.
Vítkovice have also brought in Vojtěch Port from first-league club Zlín. Wesley, the son of former NHL defenceman Glen Wesley, previously played for Litvínov.
