HC Oceláři Třinec beat BK Mladá Boleslav 3-0 in the 11th round of the Tipsport Extraliga, extending their run of home victories to seven. Goaltender Marek Mazanec stopped all 40 shots for his third shutout of the season in five appearances. Třinec’s Slovak forwards supplied the goals, with Patrik Hrehorčák scoring the third, shorthanded, to seal the result.
Mladá Boleslav dominated the opening period, outshooting the hosts 12-1, but the teams went into the first break scoreless. Hrehorčák said Třinec had prepared for the visitors’ aggressive forechecking, but struggled with unnecessary puck-holding. He also credited Mazanec, saying the goalie was perfect and helped the team.
Třinec led by one in the third period before scoring twice in the space of two minutes. Hrehorčák said the second goal eased the pressure, as a one-goal lead could have been overturned by a bad bounce. He then finished a shorthanded breakaway for the third goal. The forward had recently returned after minor health problems that had prevented him from getting into his equipment; he said the time away from playing had been difficult psychologically.
