Sheffield Steelers came back from two goals down to beat Guildford Flames in a shootout on Sunday, after the teams were tied 3-3 at the end of overtime. Guildford took the lead early in the second period through Jack Jacome, then Justin Ducharme made it 2-0. Sheffield replied on the powerplay when Tim Gettinger scored from a rebound, and Brandon Whistle levelled after Gettinger’s shot hit the post. Cole Sanford put Guildford back in front a minute later with a wrist shot.

Olivier Archambault tied the game for Sheffield with 7:32 remaining, finishing a partial breakaway. Neither team scored in overtime, despite Guildford having a powerplay chance. Sheffield won the shootout with goals from Mikko Juusola and Adam Rockwood, who scored twice.

Guildford’s Sanford said his team had put itself in a good position but let the lead slip, and described the missed overtime powerplay as disappointing. Rockwood said Sheffield were elated with the win but needed to find a way to play for a full 60 minutes.
