Nottingham Panthers scored with 2:02 left to beat Sheffield Steelers 3-2 at the Motorpoint Arena, moving to the top of Challenge Cup Group A. The game was watched by 6,863 fans. Neither team scored in the opening period, despite chances at both ends.

Sheffield went ahead at 28:11 when Sean Collins tipped Logan Roe’s shot past the Nottingham netminder. Nottingham levelled with 1:21 remaining in the second period: Chase Pearson set up Tim Doherty in the slot, and Doherty fired into the top of Matt Greenfield’s net. Roe restored Sheffield’s lead at 46:16 with a shot from the point.

The Panthers drew level again with 5:12 left, as Zsombor Garát scored after Greenfield saved Pearson’s tight-angle shot. Roe was then penalised for high-sticking, giving Nottingham a late power play. Zach O’Brien sent the puck towards goal, and Sheffield’s Tim Getting inadvertently redirected it to Ben Corbeil, who scored the winner. Garát said the Panthers were “really proud of our third period” and praised the team’s hunger while trailing.
