Guildford Flames claimed the extra point with a 4-3 shootout victory over Manchester Storm at the Spectrum in a Challenge Cup encounter. The hosts scored inside the first minute, with Jordan Power converting Mathieu Gosselin’s pass, then doubled their lead on a powerplay through a Gosselin shot that deflected off Brendor Clavelle.

Manchester responded with goals from Anton Karlsson and Brandon Cutler to make it 2-2 at the first intermission. After a scoreless second period, Cole Sanford put Guildford back in front early in the third, but J.D. Dudek equalised at 47:41. Neither team scored in overtime.

Josh Waller and Gosselin converted their shootout attempts for Guildford, while Manchester failed to score on any of its four attempts. Gosselin said the team had wanted a strong start and that he knew what he planned to do in the shootout. Manchester’s Cutler praised his side’s penalty kill and said it had stuck to its game plan after falling two goals behind.
