Rögle forward Daniel Zaar has been suspended for four games after the Swedish Ice Hockey Association’s Disciplinary Committee found him guilty of an illegal check to the head of Örebro player Christopher Mastomäki. He was also fined SEK 21,500.

The incident occurred 29 seconds into the third period of the teams’ game. Zaar received a five-minute major and a game misconduct after hitting Mastomäki with his left shoulder. The puck and play were behind the goal in Örebro’s defensive zone, and the committee said Zaar arrived as a third player and was not playing the puck.

The committee concluded that Zaar had room to stop the hit and avoid contact with Mastomäki’s head. It cited the blind-side nature of the hit, the fact that it struck almost exclusively the head, and the significant risk of injury as key factors in determining the punishment. The suspension runs from 1 to 21 November 2026 and is assessed as equivalent to four games.
