Fife Flyers secured a place in the Challenge Cup Elimination Game after taking the point they needed against Belfast Giants, then claimed the extra point with a 3-2 shootout victory. The teams were tied 2-2 after regulation and overtime, with Fife scoring in each of the first two shootout rounds. Jordan Kawaguchi was the only Belfast player to convert.
Belfast opened the scoring through Kawaguchi at 13:11, but Cameron Hough equalised for Fife with four seconds left in the first period, finishing after Xander Lamppa won possession and sent the puck across the zone. Jake Gaudet put the Giants back in front on a powerplay late in the second.
Hough scored his second goal of the night while Fife were shorthanded in the third period to make it 2-2. Neither side found a winner in regulation. Belfast goaltender Jake Kupsky made a late overtime save to deny Cole Stuart, sending the game to a shootout. Fife then scored twice before Kawaguchi replied for Belfast.
