Ice hockey clubs across Germany will open their rinks to children trying the sport for the first time during a taster week from 16 to 22 November 2026. The campaign is being organised for the third time by the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB), the PENNY DEL and DEL2. This year, all state ice sports and ice hockey associations are participating for the first time, joining the “We Are Ice Hockey” youth initiative.
The week will follow the Deutschland Cup, which concludes in Düsseldorf on 8 November. Participating clubs and associations will arrange activities such as kids’ days, skating schools and sessions with professional players. The programme is aimed at children aged around four to eight; no previous experience is required, and equipment will be provided. Coaches will guide children on the ice while parents receive information about training and club life.
Ulrich Liebsch, a DEB coach and coordinator for talent and club support, said clubs need follow-up opportunities to help children move into regular training. The DEB will publish a list of participating clubs and further information on its website.
