The SHL situations room has explained three goal decisions following video reviews, including two goals that were disallowed and one that stood. The league says it publishes explanations of individual review decisions each week; all goals are checked, and referees can contact the situations room for help during a game.
In the first case, the puck was directed into the net with a distinct kicking motion. Under rule 78.5 ii, the goal was disallowed because the skate gave the puck additional speed.
A second goal was ruled out for goalkeeper interference under rule 69.3. An attacking player was pushed into the goalkeeper by a teammate after a contest with a defender, preventing the goalkeeper from making a save.
In the third review, the goal was allowed. Although an attacker made light contact with the goalkeeper, the review found that it did not affect the goalkeeper’s ability to save the puck. The SHL says the on-ice decision stands unless video shows it was incorrect; if the footage cannot establish that, the review is inconclusive.
