Färjestad have made a strong start to the SHL season, leading the standings by five points after eight games. They have scored 34 goals and conceded only eight, while also topping the league in penalty killing, shooting percentage, save percentage and faceoff percentage. Their power play ranks second at 34.6 per cent.
Forward Viktor Lodin said he had never experienced numbers like these before, apart from perhaps when he was ten. He credited the team’s calm and hard work, adding that the players are focused on improving details and staying humble. Lodin singled out the defensive work and goaltending, as well as the team’s penalty kill, as highlights.
Lodin also praised coach Cam Abbott for making every game feel important and helping prepare the team. Färjestad’s start has come despite the injuries of star signings Marcus Johansson and Victor Ejdsell. Lodin said their return would provide a boost through their experience and skill.
