Skellefteå AIK marked 20 years since securing promotion to Sweden’s top division, a turning point that began the club’s rise to five Swedish championships and sustained success near the top of the game. On 5 April 2006, Skellefteå beat Bofors 7–4 to end a 16-year wait for promotion. Andreas Falk, now an assistant coach, was part of that team and recalled how narrow the margins had been during the qualification series.

The club reached its first championship final since its return in 2011, then played six consecutive finals. It won titles in 2013 and 2014, before lifting the trophy again in 2024. General manager Erik Forssell pointed to stable leadership and long-serving people as key factors, while Falk highlighted the connections between local players, returning former players and successive generations.

Forssell said Skellefteå seeks players who are strong on the puck, skate well and put the team first. Falk described a demanding environment and said the club must keep adapting while maintaining its standards. The challenge now, Forssell said, is to preserve continuity while developing its game and players.
