HIFK forward Daniel Mäkiaho has been voted Liiga’s player of the month for October, taking 47.8% of the votes in the league’s mobile-app poll. KooKoo’s Veeti Miettinen received 44.2%, while Rauman Lukko’s Daniel Salonen had 8.0%.

Mäkiaho recorded 19 points in 11 games, contributing to 57.6% of HIFK’s goals during the month. He was October’s leading scorer, goalscorer and assist provider, and shared the top place in plus-minus at +10. His scoring streak, which began in September, reached 12 games. The source says it was the third-longest such run by an HIFK player in Liiga matches since 2000.

The 25-year-old has also earned his first national-team call-up, for the Helsinki EHT tournament. He is playing his seventh Liiga season and is on pace to surpass the 38 points he recorded last season, though the source’s projected total is based on his early-season scoring rate.

Mäkiaho will receive the award before HIFK’s game against Jokerit on 11 November in Helsinki.
