EC-KAC have signed Latvian goaltender Mareks Mitens, who is expected in Klagenfurt next weekend. The 28-year-old will join Florian Vorauer to form the club’s goaltending tandem. His contract runs initially until the national-team break in November.
Mitens played in the AHL and ECHL after his college career in North America, then returned to Europe in 2023. He has since been under contract with clubs in the top leagues in Czechia and Slovakia. He received his first World Championship call-up in 2025 and made his tournament debut against Finland at the 2026 World Championship in Switzerland.
EC-KAC general manager Oliver Pilloni said the club assessed around 30 available goaltenders before making the signing. Alongside Mitens’ international experience, the decision was based on his fit with the club’s sporting requirements and the financial framework.
