HC TIWAG Innsbruck – Die Haie recovered from a late deficit to beat EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV at home on Sunday. The Tirol side took an early lead but had to chase a 2-1 score in the third period. Steven Owre tied the game shortly before the end, and Connor Mayer secured the extra point in overtime.
“We gave everything and played very well. We were chasing for a long time, but managed to equalise and then took the second point as well,” captain Marcel Witting said after the game. He also praised the team’s resilience, saying Innsbruck had already come back several times this season.
Witting said the change from last season had made hockey enjoyable again and that he believed the team was on its way to building a new identity. Innsbruck next visit HC Falkensteiner Pustertal on Friday. The teams are separated by one point, with Pustertal currently sixth. Witting expects a balanced game, but said Innsbruck would have a chance if it played its own game.
