Sheffield Steelers beat Fife Flyers 6-3 on Sunday, building a four-goal first-period lead before holding off a second-period fightback. Aatu Aarnio opened the scoring, Ryan Tait made it 2-0 and powerplay goals from Logan Roe and Evan Jasper put the hosts firmly ahead after 20 minutes. Fife challenged Tait’s goal for offside, but a video review upheld the call.
The Flyers cut the deficit to one with three goals in three minutes. Zachary Power scored, Mika Partanen converted on a five-on-three powerplay, and Cameron Hough added another to make it 4-3. “We gave them a bit there in the second period which allowed them to make it close, but it was definitely self-inflicted mistakes,” Roe said.
After a scoreless remainder of the second period and opening stages of the third, Jasper scored his second of the night from Adam Rockwood’s backhand pass. Olivier Archambault completed the scoring with less than three minutes left. Hough said Fife had a chance to get a point but “in the end it didn't work out.”
