Cardiff Devils extended their unbeaten start to the Motorpoint Elite League season with a 5-2 win over Belfast Giants at the Vindico Arena. The victory completed Cardiff’s 40th Anniversary Weekend, during which they recorded two wins.
Josh MacDonald opened the scoring just over four minutes into the game, but Belfast responded through Jake Gaudet before David Goodwin put the visitors ahead. The Giants took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. Riley Brandt levelled for Cardiff at 31:18, finishing a move created by Nick Welsh, and the teams remained tied at 2-2 after two periods.
Ryan Barrow restored Cardiff’s lead at 44:38, converting Jonas Emmerdahl’s pass at the far post. With Belfast pressing for an equaliser, MacDonald scored his second of the night after Joey Martin sent him through on goal. Brandt added an empty-net goal with 59 seconds remaining to seal the win.
