KooKoo beat Adler Mannheim 5-2 to claim their third win of the Champions Hockey League campaign and secure a place in the playoffs. The Finnish side opened up a three-goal lead before Mannheim mounted a response, but KooKoo added two more goals to seal the result.
Marcus Davidsson scored twice in quick succession in the first period, first beating Maximilian Franzreb with a wraparound and then lifting the puck past the Mannheim goalkeeper from close range. Davidsson completed his hat-trick in the second period with a shorthanded goal, skating past a defender before sliding the puck through Franzreb’s legs.
Mannheim also scored shorthanded, with Anthony Greco putting away a rebound. KooKoo restored their three-goal cushion in the third period when Veeti Miettinen finished Ville Meskanen’s play. Brooks Macek’s attempt to pass across the crease then deflected off a KooKoo defender and into the net, making it 4-2.
Oskari Luoto added an empty-net goal to confirm the win. Mannheim’s second defeat of the season was also confirmed.
